How to Remove Object Using New Photoshop AI Beta

Learn How to Remove Objects from Photos using Adobe Photoshop AI Beta in this tutorial video. Discover the best techniques for achieving accurate results and optimize your photo editing process.

To begin, ensure you are using the appropriate Beta version of Photoshop. If you're unsure how to do this, I have a dedicated video explaining the process. Simply open the Creative Cloud app, navigate to the top menu, select "apps," and then choose the Beta apps from the left-hand side. Locate the latest Photoshop Beta, download, and install it.

Once you have the beta version installed, open the image you wish to edit. In this demonstration, we'll be using a picture of a frog.

By default, you'll notice the new AI generative fill dialogue box at the bottom. Although it may still be a bit hit or miss at the moment, one method you can try is selecting the subject. This option usually does a decent job of quickly identifying the main subject in your image.

To give Photoshop more to work with, I recommend expanding the selection slightly. Select the brush tool and choose "expand selection." Specify the desired expansion value and press enter.

Now, let's give the new AI feature a try. Keep in mind that the current results can be a bit unpredictable using this method, but it will improve over time. I'll also show you an alternative technique shortly.

Click on the generative fill button. You can either leave the prompt box empty or provide a specific instruction to guide Photoshop's output. It can be quite fascinating to see what Photoshop generates on its own. For now, I'll leave it blank, and the result is not bad. Sometimes, you might even end up with a different frog or something rather unusual.

You can cycle through three different versions that the AI generates as well.

However, I'll now demonstrate the method that has been yielding better results for me. Let's undo the previous step and select the lasso tool instead. Draw a rough selection around the frog without being too meticulous. Once your selection is ready, click on generative fill, leave the text prompt blank, and hit generate.

In my experience, this approach has been more effective for now. However, as Adobe continues to refine this feature, I'm confident that the select subject option will surpass it.

And that’s how to remove objects with the new generative fill AI tool inside of Photoshop Beta.
