This video shows the evolution of German language from Proto-Indo-European to Modern Standard German.

Proto-Indo-European - theorized common ancestor of the Indo-European language family (Romance, Germanic, Celtic, Balto-Slavic, Indo-Iranian and some other languages). Its proposed features have been derived by linguistic reconstruction from documented Indo-European languages. No direct record of Proto-Indo-European exists.
Proto-Germanic - reconstructed proto-language of the Germanic branch of the Indo-European languages.
Proto-West-Germanic - reconstructed ancestor of West Germanic languages, that mean: Anglo-Frisian languages, Dutch, Lower German dialects, Central German dialects and Upper German dialects.
Old High German - the earliest stage of the German language, conventionally covering the period from around 750 to 1050.
Middle High German - is the term for the form of German spoken in the High Middle Ages. It is conventionally dated between 1050 and 1350, developing from Old High German and into Early New High German.
