Basswood has become a standard material for use in the manufacturing of Ibanez guitars and is a relatively lightweight wood - which makes it suitable for extended playing periods. The pick-up configuration provides USA made Dimarzio IBZ hum-buckers at the neck and bridge position with a single coil IBZ pick-up located in between the two in a middle position. A single volume and separate tone control speed knob provides volume and tone adjustment where appropriate. The RG2550Z uses the Ibanez Edge Zero locking tremolo system which is in a Charcoal finish to contrast with the Galaxy White finish of the guitar. The Edge Zero tremolo sysytem has plenty of adjustment possiblities that allow tensioning of the tremolo arm itself and an intonation adjuster screw to provide accurate tuning up the fret board. The remaining hardware is also finished in Charcoal (machine heads and volume & tone pots) and has a stunning mirror scratch plate that's sure to look good under the stage lights ... lthough Ibanez make a wide range of guitars to suit all styles, they are best known for their range of high octane Super Strats and with good reason. Yes they make superb instruments that can be seen in the hands of some of the world's best players but they are also the leaders when it comes to innovation. The RG2550Z is fitted with an Edge Zero Tremolo and it's an engineering triumph! The Tremolo is made from Duralumin, a very strong lightweight metal used in aircraft manufacture. There's an intonation adjustment tool built into the base of the unit. The tremolo arm has a new "snap in" mechanism that feels very reassuring and the torque can be easily fine tuned to your individual taste. A new injection mould process has enabled Ibanez to eliminate any/all sharp edges improving player comfort. It's this kind of innovation and attention to detail that helps maintain Ibanez's status as a world class manufacturer. Strapped on, the guitar's weight and balance is spot on. The 5 piece Wizard neck is slim, fast and silky smooth. Pickups are DiMarzio and the HSH configuration is one of the most versatile and they yield a whole host of classy, classic clean sounds. As a rock guitar the RG2550Z performance is top drawer. The sounds produced are quality, regardless of how much overdrive you pour on, note separation and string balance are impressive.
