006 - Tractor Attachment.. New Split-Fire 4003 chipper/shredder

We uncrate and start using a Split-Fire 4003 3 point chipper/shredder in this episode. This is the first of several videos which each focus on a new attachment for our Yanmar SA425 tractor. For us, this will primarily shred up blackberry vines and Scotch Broom "old growth timber".

This chipper has some unique design features including a gearbox that improves the speed of the rotor so that it very nearly a vacuum for vines and debris. This design also buffers the cutting head from the PTO driveshaft through a set of belts which will absorb any shock from blockage in the horizontally oriented cutter.. should it occur. Finally, there are handy trailer hitch and discharge chute accessories allowing us to pull a small utility trailer behind the chipper when moving around to accumulate the chips/mulch.

This adds to a number of fun videos as we learn more about this property and engage all that it will take to remove invasive weeds, plant new sequoia and other trees for this climate, and likely rebuild the house as a mostly off grid and sustainable retreat.
