A neat way of getting water from a lower area to a higher area in a mechanical way. Beautifully made twin Archimedes screw water pumps. These two metal and wood installations are located in Whinlatter Forest, England.
Archimedes screw:
Used in ancient times for moving water from a river or dam to a higher lying area, e.g for agriculture. These two Archimedes water screws allow anyone to use them and get a hands-on feel of the working action. These days, Archimedes screws are also used in the reverse direction where the water powers a turbine to generate electricity.
