This is the 2nd installment in the Orchestral Metroid series, in which I convert Hip Tanaka's 8-bit brain children into orchestral monstrosities that honour yet transcend their NES heritage. The introduction that takes up the first 50 seconds of the piece is based on the jingle that can be head during Samus' first appearance in the game. I used strings, three clarinets a flute for this arrangement. This intro segue-ways into Brinstar Bolero for big forces. This music is a fleshing out of the musical theme heard in the game's Brinstar area. I gave the rhythm a half time feeling allowing it to resemble a Bolero. I basically proceeded in the vein of Ravel's famous piece. With each repetition the melody is being passed on to a different instrument (group). The orchestration progressively thickens. As per Ravel the music takes a detour just before the ending into a different chord area, before crashing back into the final statement of the opening chords. Great fun!
