'A sinful schoolmaster and the making of modern Ireland, 1895-1921'. Professor John Morrill, Selwyn Fellow.
Fuelled by his love of Ireland, this lecture will explore what happened when in 1914 a parish priest in Ballyvaughan, County Clare, sacked the teacher in his parish school for reasons which are themselves mysterious. An intriguing episode in Irish history which shines a light on the wider battle for independence. Hosted by Vice-Master Dr Janet O'Sullivan, who takes questions from the audience.
