This video goes over how to drain and fill your CVT (continuous variable transmission) transmission fluid on a 2013 Nissan Altima with a 2.5 four-cylinder. This should be the same process for any 2013- 2017 Nissan Altima with a 2.5 motor. After talking to many dealerships, transmission shops, checking out many videos and seeing unrealistic and conflicting ways of doing it, I decided to produce something that was more simplistic that people were more likely and able to do. I've heard CVT’s are thought to be the next evolution of the automobile transmission, but right now the verdict is still out. Auto makers are starting to use CVTs for several reasons. Since there are no gears to upshift or downshift, a CVT will feel smoother in most driving situations and will be more fuel efficient doing it. A CVT will get maximum power out of a small engine for quicker and more responsive acceleration. They’re cheaper to produce, have less moving parts, lighter and deliver excellent power efficiency. It also improves your vehicle’s fuel economy and their efficiency. Transmissions are an expensive thing to replace in any vehicle ,but a  CVT replacements actually can add quite a few more dollars to that bill,  CVT replacements are in the $4000-$7000 range. When they first came out, they were saying that it was a lifetime fluid and no maintenance was required, but with the numerous failures they’re now advising that you change your transmission fluid every 40-50 thousand miles to extend the life of your CVT. Make sure that any CVT transmission fluid you use meets or exceeds your manufacturer's recommendation for your vehicle. The tools we used were recommended in a Nissan Technical service bulletin. These tools performed well, but are a little pricey if you're not doing this often. The links below are cheaper options and you would then just apply the same basic principle. This easy and simplistic way to change your CVT fluid may hopefully extend the life of your vehicle's CVT.
