MediaTek Dimensity 9000 Plus is now official and this is MediaTek's answer to the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. The Dimensity 9000+ comes with a similar CPU configuration as the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 but has higher clock speed for the Cortex-A710 cores.

When MediaTek launched Dimensity 9000 SOC last year, it sent out a message to Qualcomm that it could compete with the best that Qualcomm has to offer. The Dimensity 9000 launched as the world’s first chipset built on the 4nm process & had the same CPU configuration as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, i.e., one Cortex-X2 core, three Cortex-A710, and four Cortex-A510 cores. MediaTek even had the edge over Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 in terms of clock speed since it was higher in the case of Dimensity 9000.

Moreover, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 had thermal issues, probably because it was built on Samsung’s 4nm process. Last month, however, Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, which offered some significant upgrades over Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, the biggest of all being the manufacturing process. The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is built on the TSMC’s 4nm process, just like the Dimensity 9000. This results in almost 30% improved power efficiency. The CPU & GPU of Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 get a 10% performance boost over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.

When Qualcomm announced Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, it was clear that MediaTek would answer. And today, the company did. MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ is now official, and this is an upgrade over the Dimensity 9000 and MediaTek’s answer to the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SOC.

Compared to the Dimensity 9000 SOC, the MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ offers a 5% improvement in CPU performance. This is possible because of the higher clock speeds of the Cortex-X2 core. While it was 3.05GHz in the case of Dimensity 9000, MediaTek increased it to 3.2GHz in the case of Dimensity 9000+. The three Cortex-A710 and four Cortex-A510 cores are clocked at the same clock speed as the non-Plus chip. The GPU performance is also improved by 10%.

And well, that is pretty much it. Other things like the ISP, display support, camera support, etc. remain the same as for the Dimensity 9000.

MediaTek says we will get phones powered by Dimensity 9000+ in Q3 2022.
