If you own any of the Yaesu radios that support their ATAS screwdriver antenna tuner, this solution will work for you. Using the LDG RT-100 remote antenna tuner, you don't need a power cable or even the controller box they provide. Just put the radio into ATAS mode, press the "multi-function" tune button under the display, and the unit will first go thru "INIT" mode for a minute or two. Then it should say "ATAS" and you're ready to tune. Just press and hold the tune button for about 1 second until you hear a short beep and release. The RT-100 will automatically proceed thru its "hunting" mode using about 5W from the radio to find a solution which might take 5-10 seconds the first time, then it stores the result for next time. It beeps when done and goes back to receive mode. Do this a few times across a band and you've trained the RT-100 for the band. And the RT-100 has latching relays so it stays at the last conditions it was tuned for. No need to use the mike PTT plus "UP" button or having to put the radio into FM mode to transmit a carrier signal! It's all built right into the front panel controls. And this sucker is pretty hard to stump, even with lousy antennas. You may not be the most efficient, but at least you'll get on the air!
