Do you know the best thing to eat for breakfast if you have insulin resistance?

This is one of a three-part series where I’m going to show you some awesome meal plans designed to help control your blood sugar and reverse insulin resistance.

Insulin Resistance Diet Dinner: Insulin Resistance Diet - What To Eat...

If you have insulin resistance you need to eat a very specific diet to control your blood sugar and keep your HGB A1C from creeping into diabetic levels. Insulin resistance is when your cells are not allowing insulin to escort glucose in. And that’s a problem because glucose is what your cells use to create energy. If you’re IR all the glucose that doesn’t get used as energy floods into your blood raising your blood sugar and your HGBA1C. And all that sugar is super inflammatory. To protect you, the only thing your liver can do with extra blood sugar is to turn it into body fat.

Today, I'm going to explain exactly what you should be eating for breakfast, and why if you have IR, breakfast truly is the most important meal of the day. And it’s a natural way to break your fast. Yes, while you’ve been sleeping, you’ve been intermittent fasting. You're already fasting if you're not eating in the middle of the night. And if you go to bed, not have any two hours before you, and you're sleeping at least eight hours you already have a 10, maybe 12 hour fast under your belt. So in order to start your metabolism. You need to feed it and break your fast, that's really what breakfast means breaking your fast. And for Insulin Resistance it's so important because the type of foods that you choose in the morning for breakfast will help to determine how fast your metabolism is. And that helps you have energy, prevent inflammation, and help to prevent that extra belly fat.

So what would a great Insulin Resistance breakfast look like? (02:20)

There are three parts of a healthy Insulin Resistance breakfast:
1. PROTEIN (03:56)

2. FATS (04:59)

3. CARBOHYDRATES (06:14)

I like to be sure that my IR patients have an adequate amount of protein for breakfast. And the way we calculate protein is particular for them. You need to eat a certain amount of protein every day to maintain your lean body mass. Whether you have IR or not. To keep your metabolism high, prevent rapid aging, and help balance your hormones. That's so important.

How to calculate your lean body mass (02:58)

My favorite breakfasts for Insulin Resistance:
Breakfast Meal #1 (07:20)
Breakfast Meal #2 (08:16)
Breakfast Meal #3 (10:24) Smoothie

Is coffee or tea ok? (10:45) Yes. Just be sure to use whole fat unsweetened creamers. If you need a little sweetener try a natural non-caloric sweetener like stevia rather than an artificial one.
