If you decide to make this out fabric and NOT a scarf, I would recommend looking for stretch fabric that cuts clean. This will allow you to cut the armholes without needing to sew them after.
A ribbed scarf, like mine, is a great option because the ribbing seems to keep everything from fraying! too cool!
