Usually not someone's only bike, but a 2nd or 3rd bike, a dirt jumper or DJ have become popular for those who want to mess around the pump track, dual slalom tracks, or just mess around on jumps around the neighborhood. I'm in my 40s so truthfully my DJ days are probably past and I tend to lean towards full squish or a bigger hardtail with gears, but if you're younger or your body can handle it, they are pretty sweet! I think if I spent enough time on one and worked on my jumping and manuals, it would transfer over to the trails and help me be a better rider. We have sold the Marin Alcatraz since we opened our shop in 2019 and have sold a good amount of them as they have been popular. The new one that came out last year now has 2 different sizes to help the taller riders and a couple changes to the frame and spec. Overall it's a sweet little bike.
The Transition PBJ has been out for awhile and has been the preferred chromoly steel DJ bike for those wanting a strong and capable jump bike with a bit nicer specs then you'll find on the Alcatraz.
