Isenheim Altarpiece demonstration

Painted by Matthias Grunewald between 1512 and 1516 for the monastery of the Antonite order where victims of Saint Anthony's fire (a disfiguring disease cause by the ingestion of rye infected with ergot) were treated. The altarpiece was intended to help the patients endure their suffering long before the age of painkillers.
