Rhinitis is one of the most common chronic illnesses in childhood. The prevalence of allergic rhinitis in childhood is about 10-20% in different studies. In some studies, it is found to be as high as 35%. In mild cases, rhinitis may be asymptomatic. In more severe cases, it can be associated with nasal obstruction, rhinorrhea, sneezing, nasal itching, and conjunctival and cutaneous symptoms. Rhinitis in children may be related to food allergies. In a few cases, it may be a manifestation of a more serious underlying disease.
Rhinitis is the term used for inflammation of the nose. It can be due to allergy or non-allergic inflammation. True allergic rhinitis is called allergic rhinitis. Allergic rhinitis is caused by an allergy. The symptoms are sneezing, runny nose, nasal congestion, itchy nose, and itchy, watery eyes. An allergic reaction happens when our body's immune system overreacts to an allergen or foreign substance.
