Enclosures | Intermediate JAZZ Improvisation

Enclosures are a device I use in my improvisation a lot.  They were used by artists such as Clifford Brown and then later Pat Metheny.  Bebop music uses it a great deal as well.  This is an idea you want to master if your goal is to play jazz banjo.  Know your chord tones.

One book I recommend the serious Jazz student to read and look through is "Thinking in Jazz" by Paul Berliner, you can find it on Amazon here.  This is a large book with a ton of information on how jazz artists improvise.  Not recommended for the beginner.
