I've wanted to conclusively answer this question for a long time: how much better is it to play on an open vs. closed-wrap trigger tenor trombone? Many people blindly trust the open wrap because it looks, well, physically more 'open,' supposedly resulting in less turbulence and resistance in the airflow when the trigger is engaged. How true is this really, though? In this video we explore the differences between these two wraps, including a foible of Bach's standard open-wrap design that actually negates some of its supposed benefits. Maybe it's not the end of the world after all if your trombone has a closed-wrap trigger assembly. Enjoy!
