This video states some important differences between tetrahedral and octahedral voids.
Tetrahedral and Octahedral voids are formed when atoms are closely packed in solid state. When atoms are placed one above the other in cubic system, it will create a void called cubic void. Simple cubic and BCC have this type of voids.
If the atoms are placed in the depression of 1st layer atoms, it will create a triangular voids. When this void is covered by atom of upper layer, the void is surrounded by 4 atoms and called as tetrahedral void.
At other places it will make a hole which is surrounded by 6 atoms and stated as Octahedral void.
If the number of closely packed sphere is N, then Tetrahedral void is 2 N and Octahedral void is N
