A certified organic dairy shipping milk to Horizon Organic, the Andrew Batdorfs and family of McVeytown, PA have implemented a number of conservation practices and environmentally-friendly operations on their farms. A solar panel powers an underground pump for a pasture watering system and a windmill on the home farm pumps water into a holding tank for an additional watering system. Manure curbing prevents run-off onto the property and nearby stream.
Andrew Batdorf received the 2010 Sustainability Award from PA Certified Organic for his sustainable farming and conservation efforts. He will share with tour participants his path to organic certification and how h has chosen to protect and improve the environment on his farm an the surrounding landscape.
