Oh no, this is the road… to hell."

Happy Birthday to Chris Rea who was born on this date in 1951. If I didn’t upload this video today, I don’t know when I would.

“The Road to Hell (Part 2)” by Chris Rea is the title track off the album which came out in 1989 and featured Eoghan O'Neill on bass. I love the guitar riff @ 03:57!

I was introduced to Chris Rea by my dear, old, internet friend, Helen Anastasia Anderson, from Chipping Lancashire, whose home borders the Bowland Wild Boar Park. We were fast friends for a number of years, mostly via email and then Facebook. We had a lot of common interests. She played bass, loved Jethro Tull, was into Horror, etc. She also had a wicked and irreverent sense of humor. Lynn knew all about Helen and would often ask me to ask Helen what her opinion was on current and past events that were happening (or had happened) in American and English life. Lynn would sometimes say, “If anything should ever happen to me, I know where you’re going… over to England to live with Helen.” She was right, I would never let the fact that Helen was a devout lesbian stand in the way of our love… haha. Helen left all social media a few years back and only had a Twitter account. Of course, I created my own Twitter account just to keep in touch, but it seems as though she has left Twitter as well (I checked last night after writing this). I should probably do the same as I find that place incredibly toxic. Anyway, the two songs she sent me were this one and “Nothing To Fear”. This was some 12 years ago or so. While it’s not my usual cup of tea, I always thought that this song was catchy… reminds me a bit of Dire Straights. When I’ve finished recording my latest batch of videos, I’ll start looking around for what to start working on next. Sometimes, I’ll go to the top my iTunes catalog and work my way down to see if there was something I might have missed or something that I’d started working on and put aside. This was one I’d passed over many times until I finally decided to give it a go. It’s a straightforward song, but the simpler the bass-line, the more important every passing tone, rest, and phrasing becomes.
