Urinary tract infections are the most common outpatient infection in women.
50-60% of women will get an urinary tract infection with many of them getting recurrent infections.
3 out of 25 men will get a urinary tract infection in their lifetime.

UTIs can be caused by virus, bacteria or fungal infections.  It can impact the urethra, bladder, ureters and kidneys.

Symptoms: urinary urgency and frequency with incomplete voiding, foul order, cloudy urine, blood in the urine, burning and pain upon urination, fever, pressure in the lower abdomen, confusion, fatigue and shakiness.

Rapid onset of UTIs have been associated with increase anxiety and depression

Increase risk of recurrent UTIs
**age of onset less than or equal to age of 15.
**diabetes
**frequency of intercourse and number of partners
** incontinence
**polycystic kidney
**use of spermicides
**bubble baths

Prevention
Vegetarian diet decreases E. Coli exposure and is less acidic
Proper hydration and hygiene.
Elimination of soft drinks, alcohol.
Tight clothing

Supplements: Cranberry juice/extracts, probiotics-lactobacillus, berberine, blueberry, uva ursi, d-mannose
