The FN Scar 16, Sig
The FN Scar 16, Sig Sauer MCX Virtus (or MCX Spear LT) and CZ Bren 2 Ms are some of the most prolific modern rifle designs to challenge the long reign of the AR-15 in terms of a strong and reliable performing rifle in the 5.56x45 caliber. Instead of a direct impingement design, the Scar, MCX and Bren 2 all utilize highly reliable and exceptionally clean short-stroke gas piston setups that offer a lot of benefits over a standard DI AR design. The FN Scar has been around for nearly 20 years and has earned its legendary status from real world use as well as frequent appearances in movies and video games. The Sig Sauer MCX was originally introduced in 2015 and has already gone through multiple iterations and improvements, with the Virtus in this video being the 2nd generation, recently supplanted by the new Gen 3 MCX Spear LT. The CZ 805 Bren was originally introduced in 2006 before eventually being improved with the CZ Bren 2 in 2016. The Bren and MCX are available in multiple calibers, but for the purposes of this comparison we'll primarily be focusing on the capabilities of each firearm in the 5.56x45mm caliber.
This video is the massive culmination of my previous videos on my 10" FN Scar 16, 11.5" Sig MCX Virtus and 8" CZ Bren 2Ms SBRs, and has been carefully constructed to provide an extremely detailed breakdown of the shooting experience with each of these firearms. I will not be discussing accuracy or reliability at great length, because in my experience they've all been very accurate and reliable and have track records that speak for themselves, and there are also great videos by far more capable shooters than me showcasing the accuracy of these firearms. Instead I will be focusing on elements critical to the shooting experience - recoil impulse, sight movement, triggers, manual of arms, ergonomics and much more. I conducted 3 tests to analyze recoil impulse / sight movement / triggers, suppressed sound and suppressor host effectiveness (using my Dead Air Sandman-S suppressor), and unsuppressed and suppressed gas performance for each of these excellent rifles. Then afterwards we'll dig in for a long form discussion on each topic in great detail.
