Most surfboards consist of a foam core. But Jonas Buchholz's specialty is boards that are hollow on the inside and made of wood on the outside.
In order to work as resource-efficiently as possible, the carpenter uses a former balcony cladding made of mahogany. Together with thin strips of maple, this forms the outside of the surfboard. In the middle is just a thin wooden frame for better stability. After all, the board should be as light as possible and last as long as possible.
Jonas Buchholz started surfing around 20 years ago. When he started an apprenticeship as a carpenter, he eventually built his first board out of wood. The idea of surfing pure wood fascinated him even then and still inspires him today. With every new wooden surfboard, he tinkers with his technique to build the perfect board.
