Translated Lyrics:
Against the house where my mother gave birth to me
Clung a grapevine whose thousand fingers had climbed high
Past the door frame all the way up to the roof beam
I've not seen such beauty since nor ever will I?
In the summertime, our mother sat in its shade
While we children jumped up and down all around her
We were little then but growing bigger each day
In our company, she abounded with pleasure.
With her hands, she would bend the branches down to us
The heavy bunches of grapes hung there in the air
In reach of our mouths that bit into their sweet juice
Thanks to her delicate hands and her loving care.
Beneath the grapevine, we children would plead, "More, more!"
Like the baby birds in their nest who sang "Tweet, tweet!"
Our mother fed us all the grapes that we asked for
Like the chicks' mother who brought them all, they could eat.
Winter approached, snow fell, and the cold settled in
Withering the grapevine, making the birds take flight
Mother died, her children scattered across the land
When I remember her, a teardrop blurs my sight.
