If you're someone who needs to be in many different places all at once or if you just love all corners of the earth (or should I say CURVES, since the earth isn't flat.. is it?), a world time watch would be your wrist's best companion. Whether you're a committed business traveler or just a plain globetrotter, a world time watch delivers much more than a Dual Time or a GMT watch can.
GMTs made is possible for us to read time in both a 12- and 24-hour format, as well as indicate time in two different time zones. Dual time watches are simpler but also easier to read at a glance. They feature two hour hands to also indicate time in two different time zones however, they are usually more plain in design and are best suited for someone looking to set a specific home time and an additional local one.
World time watches are much more complex as they show time in 24 time zones simultaneously. The concept was invented by Louis Cottier, the son of a watchmaker, in the 1930's. He went on to develop watches for clients such as Vacheron Constantin, Patek Philippe, Rolex and more.
🌐 It was in 1884, at the Prime Meridian Conference held in D.C., that it was decided among 20 nations that the globe would be divided into 24 time zones, all of which had a width of 15° longitude, each being 1 hour apart.
Being that some countries utilize half and quarter hour time zones, this number has been stretched to 37. Vacheron Constantin actually took it upon themselves to create a watch that would be sufficient for all of these 37 time zones and they called it the Patrimony World Time. It was released in 2011 and they were the first.
