Her story and those of the North Berwick Witch Trials has captured my attention and intrigue. My grandfathers family comes from Scotland, around the same area this took place. So, naturally I'm invested in the story already. I intend to write a book about Geillis and the others, but for now this will have to do.

Her story in a nutshell:
Geillis was a young maidservant from Tranent in East Lothian, Scotland. She worked for the deputy bailiff named David Seton. David grew suspicious when Geillis would leave “her master’s house every other night” and wondered where she was going.
She was also well known for her healing capabilities, seemingly curing difficult cases of illnesses.
So, David accused her of witchcraft.
He took it upon himself to investigate and with the help of others, do terrible things to her to make her confess her evil doings and who her fellow witches were.
They also searched for the “Devil's mark”, shaved her head to toe, and subjected her to invasive searches.
She eventually confessed and named others.
King James at this time also became interested in the stories of witches, to which were said to have a hand in causing a great storm to try and sink the ship that carried his new bride to him.
He interviewed Geillis personally.
Geillis tried to explain that she only confessed under extreme circumstances and she was innocent, but her pleas fell on deaf ears.
She was convicted, sentenced, and executed on December 4, 1591, at Castehill, Edinburgh.
She and so many others were falsely accused and convicted of witchcraft. Innocent men, women, and children.
Geillis was the first of many, and hers began the North Berwick Witch Trails. One of Scotland's darkest times.
Her name and others deserve to be remembered.
