This organic chemistry video tutorial explains the mechanism of the halohydrin formation reaction between an alkene and B2 with H2O. It also provides a few examples with Cl2 and H2O plus Br2 and CH3OH. It mentions the stereochemistry of the reaction which is anti addition and the regiochemistry where the nucleophile attacks the more substituted carbon due to the excess positive charge there and the increased stability of the transition state. It also provides a problem of the addition of an halogen such as Br2 with NaCl.
