Shrimp production has been one of the most important sectors of aquaculture for both its market value and acceptance. As the industry continues to evolve there is increased pressure to improve efficiency and cut costs. Given the feed and feed management are two primary drivers of production, pollution, and economic returns there is a need to improve them. Traditionally, shrimp feeding protocols rely on a combination of feed trays and predetermined feed plans which do not account for real time consumption of feed preferences. Over the last decade, many farmers have moved toward automated feeding systems. This includes simple timer-based feeders to more advanced feeders using passive acoustic feedback. This presentation will present information to help you understand feed intake of shrimp and describe our step-by-step evolution through feeing technologies. Hopefully, providing you with a better understanding of feed management and the benefits of automated feeding systems. D.
