Kafunta Lodge came highly recommended and so MyBeastAndI thought I would go and have a look. Its on a plain outside South Luangwa National Park in Zambia. Unfortunately it was closed for the weekend but owner TJ Kruger said I was welcome to go and visit.
Whilst there I was lucky to see a herd of breeding elephants with what seems to be quite a new born baby.
Of course I could not resist videoing all the comings and goings as they approached the water hole.
You can actually see how tiny the elephant is when around 0.32 a waterhog just passes in front of her.
She also acts just like the adults flapping her ears, moving from one foot to the other and of course also wanted to join the fun in the muddy water. It gets too much and she tires easily, falling over fatigued but mum comes to the rescue, she gently nudges her with a foot and then pulls her up with her trunk.
It's amazing to see how she keeps up with the herd, always close to mum, pushing her way underneath catching as much shade as she can.
The whole herd protect her.
Wildlife and nature is just so amazing
