A morning walk through the ancient town of Guildford. Empty streets as the town wakes up in late summer. A walk past Guildford castle, which is the only royal castle in the whole of the county. It was built by William the Conqueror shortly after his victory at the Battle of Hastings in 1066.

On 14 August 1868, a youthful-looking clergyman came to Guildford for the first time; he was Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, then aged 36, and he was on a house hunting expedition.  It is likely he was not recognised then as the already famous author of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, which had been published three years earlier under the name of Lewis Carroll. His home in Guildford is featured in this walk.

Guildford Cathedral features towards the end of this video. It made an appearance in the 1976 cult classic horror movie The Omen.
