In this video we start the series of videos on reaction rates by going over rate of formation and rate of consumption calculations. We also go over a problem that asks what the average rate of the overall reaction is.

The formula we use for these looks pretty complex, but really the only thing you need to be careful of is knowing where the negative signs go (on the reactant side) vs the positives (product side).

Its a good idea to be able to imagine how any given chemical reaction might look if it is graphed out. You could be asked to actually graph one, or (probably more likely), you'll be down a graph and asked to match the graph to the correct corresponding chemical reaction. One of my professors who sits on a test prep board mentioned to me that standardized tests are starting to push more for graphical questions because they measure how well you can apply the concepts you learned rather than how well you know the concepts you learned- it's something to consider.

Hope this helps someone! Let me know down below if:
- you have an easier way to do these
- you found a mistake or want clarification on something
- you found this helpful :D

* I am not an expert in this topic. I am just a clinical lab scientist and life-long student who learns best from videos/visual representations and demonstration and have often turned to Youtube for help learning. My hope is that others in the same boat find and benefit from this.
