Dogs fending off wild animals.

A Labrador mix attacked a collared ant eater,   but regretted straight after as the anteater grabbed hold of its neck and could've easily choked it to death.

The dog was very lucky to free itself from the anteater's grip and lived to see another day.  In the next clip couple of Turkish Kangals were on a guard,  when a bear trespassed their territory.

The bear soon realised that it was its biggest mistake as he got attacked by the Kangals.  However,  brown bears have long thick fur to protect them from harsh weather conditions,   and it comes in very handy when attacked by other animals.

Not a lot of  animals can bite through that thick fur of theirs.  If you can see in the video the Kangals had been trying to grab hold of its ears,  as ears have less fur on them and dogs could easily bite through it.

In the next clip a leopard attacked a dog in Udaipur India.   The dog grabbed hold of leopard's top lip,   while the leopard was going for dog's neck.   If leopard would've succeeded to get hold of dog's neck,   then the chances of dog surviving that day would've been very slim.

So call it luck or the experience but the dog did manage to fend off the leopard that day.  In the next clip couple of great Pyrenees dogs attacked a bear that trespassed their territory.

The great Pyrenees are widely used throughout France as a livestock guardian,  particularly in the French Alps and Pyrenees,  protecting flocks from predation by wolves and bears.

They were often used by shepherds in combination with the much smaller Pyrenean Sheepdog,  the former guarding the flocks and the latter herding them.

In the next clip a striped hyena entered a farm in Turkey and was confronted by couple of shepherd dogs.  Both dogs seem to be extremely experienced in dealing with wild animals and must've fended off such predators in the past too.

However,  dogs were wearing  protective collars around their necks and this gave them an edge over the hyena.  The striped hyena has a fairly massive,  but short torso set on long legs.  The hind legs are significantly shorter than the forelimbs,  thus causing the back to slope downwards.

The legs are relatively thin and weak,  with the forelegs being bent at the carpal region.  The neck is thick,  long and largely immobile,  while the head is heavy and massive with a shortened facial region.

The eyes are small,  while the sharply pointed ears are very large,  broad and set high on the head.  Like all hyenas,  the striped hyena has bulky pads on its paws,  as well as blunt but powerful claws.

In the next clip a leopard attacked a dog in India  but failed to take it down.
The leopard was either a juvenile or was too weak to hunt.  Leopards often hunt dogs in India.  There are many  factors involved in their such behaviour.

Number one is habitat loss for the Leopard,  secondly when easy meal is in hands why to risk injuries while chasing deer or other large animals in the wild.  Another factor is that the Leopards hunt at night,  and the people are in the habit of leaving their dogs outside of the house at night.  The type of dogs most common in India are not bred to defend against big Cats,  and are an easy prey for the big cat.
