U.S. Marine Corps PFC Jerry Pedersen recalls the day of August 6, 1945, when, aboard the USS Missouri off Japan, the 18-year-old listened as the loudspeaker announced that Hiroshima had been destroyed by the Atomic bomb.  Weeks later, on September 2 in Tokyo Bay, Pedersen and his comrades were crammed on the deck of the Missouri, watching as the Japanese formally surrendered to General MacArthur.  One of the last witnesses to an epic moment of history, Jerry Pedersen went on to devote himself to a life of peace.
