Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg sparked a snark-filled social media debate on Monday after he was asked how racism is "built into" roads and could be deconstructed during a daily White House press briefing.

After fielding questions about the bipartisan infrastructure bill that was passed by Congress last week, Buttigieg was pressed on racism in infrastructure by April D. Ryan, a White House correspondent for The Grio.

"Can you give us the construct of how you will deconstruct the racism that was built into the roadways," Ryan asked Buttigieg, referencing a previous article from The Grio on the topic. "Can you talk to us about how that could be deconstructed?
