Volkswagen has initiated pre-sales for the updated 2024 ID.4 and ID.5 electric crossovers in Europe, with pricing kicking off at 40,335 euros ($42,810) in Germany for the base Pure trim.
The primary updates include a brand-new generation of infotainment system and software, which has long been awaited by ID vehicle owners, along with a fresh electric motor on the rear axle and more potent GTX dual-motor models.
Starting with the new infotainment and software, Volkswagen asserts that the latest-generation software offers improved speed and additional functions, enhancing overall user-friendliness. Moreover, both the ID.4 and ID.5 now come equipped with a new standard infotainment system featuring a larger 12.9-inch diagonal screen.
For all ID.4 and ID.5 models equipped with the 77-kWh battery pack, there is an extended WLTP range, with the ID.4 Pro RWD boasting up to 342 miles (+10 miles), and the ID.5 Pro RWD offering up to 345 miles (+7 miles).
In terms of charging, the Volkswagen ID.4 and ID.5 with RWD can charge at speeds of up to 135 kW, while the AWD models now support charging rates of up to 175 kW. With the maximum charging capacity, ID.4 and ID.5 AWD models can add 110 miles of range in just about 10 minutes of DC fast charging. The base VW ID.4 Pure with a 52-kWh battery now charges at up to 115 kW, up from the previous 110 kW.
Speaking of charging, all ID.4 and ID.5 models benefit from new charging and thermal management systems that ensure the battery is preconditioned while driving to the next DC fast charging stop.
The US-spec 2024 VW ID.4 also receives the new rear motor and a more potent dual-motor powertrain. However, in the US, the latter is not badged GTX but is simply referred to as the ID.4 AWD Pro.
