Join us as we test out the Steam Deck with a variety of racing games. Developed and built by Valve – the team behind the Half-Life franchise and digital videogame storefront Steam – the Steam Deck has been pitched as an all-in-one portable gaming PC.
However, this doesn’t mean that all racing games found on Steam are fully compatible with the system, with only around 10% of the entire Steam back catalogue ranked as ‘Verified’ (fully compatible, in other words).
Thankfully, however, there are several excellent examples of the racing genre available to play on Steam Deck now, including the likes of the fully Verified Automobilista 2, DiRT Rally 2.0 and Circuit Superstars.
In our Steam Deck playthrough video, watch as Rich tries out Forza Horizon 5, Assetto Corsa Competizione, Hot Wheels Unleashed, Wreckfest and Split/Second in handheld form - games ranging from 'Verified' to 'Unsupported' according to the Steam Deck's game compatibility ratings.
The question is, how well does the Steam Deck perform while playing a variety of hardware-intensive racing games? Is it powerful enough to cope with the advanced graphics demands of racing sims? And perhaps most importantly, does it have enough battery life to make gaming on the go a genuine prospect?
