🐝 River crabs are called sawagani in Japanese. This name comes from the words kawa (river) and kani (crab). Sawagani are a common sight within and around streams and rivers during the warm months of year. In wet weather these crabs may leave the water and move over land. Adult Japanese river crabs are typically either blue or red in color though juveniles may appear brown. Adult male crabs are easily distinguished with their one large pincer while females have a special tail-like section for carrying eggs and young crabs. Though abundant in summer Japanese river crabs usually hide themselves away in secure locations during winter to reemerge as soon as the weather begins to warm again.

Join Kurt Bell as he investigates this peculiar phenomenon, capturing the nuances of the road crab's daring journey. Whether it's an escapade or a desperate search for a new habitat, the road crab's venture is an intriguing interlude in the bustling world of Japan's fauna.
