SHOW NOTES
Welcome Heathens! In today’s episode of the Atheist Experience, we have the Unholy Trio J Mike, Johnny Angel, and Kelley Laughlin.
First up in Bill from the Peach State (GA). Bill calls into the show to discuss Biblical Interpretations and how they could be wrong, esp. In regards to birds are actually dinosaurs based on the Hebrew language. Are you scratching your head? This is again, another example of making the Bible fit into what we understand about science. This moved into a discussion about how belief is influenced by factors, such as a close relationship with a parental figure. The hosts try to guide Bill through his logical fallacies and how feelings are not how we get to the truth.
Mari from Brazil is our second call and she speaks to our hosts about how even though she is an atheist, she still finds comfort and familiarity in following religious practices. This is very common amongst people who leave religion, but old habits die hard. With no judgment, the hosts tell Mari it is alright to fall into religious behaviors, such as praying and still know it is all bull crap. A very empathetic call.
This third call is a doozy! George from Europe wants to talk about soul! (and not the James Brown kind) The hosts and George do a merry go round of the nonsense to define what a soul is which George described in woo-woo terms and deepities. It goes nowhere, but it is entertaining!

Last call on deck is John from SC to inquire, if atheists are correct, then what is the purpose of belief? This leads into the discussion on whether atheists can respect the people who have those beliefs to a limit. Holding beliefs to yourself and practicing is all well and good, but  when you whip your belief hose out and spray it on everyone, that isn’t respectful of others and their ideas and perspectives. The conversation turns to morality and how it is an intrinsic value, not external and we don’t have to apply external meaning to it. John seems to be stuck on how beliefs form morals where atheists don’t hold that position. Morality matters because it matters to us a whole without a God. Be kind everyone regardless if anyone is holding the proverbial strings.
