Going Medieval is a Colony Sim with city building aspects in a medieval setting. Obvious competitors to this game's mechanics would be Vampire Rising.

PROS:
- Detailed city building
- Expanded crafting and resource gathering
- Challenging
- Creativity is rewarded

CONS:
- Slow paced
- Early access hell
- Roadmap promises are necessary
- Pricey for current amount of content

It might seem easy to compare V Rising with this game, but the two games only share a few features in their core gameplay and are significantly different besides that. The one feature they share is the room types and the benefits that they can provide towards those actions. For example, a library needs a certain amount of furniture and decorations to "become" a library and give research bonuses. That gameplay mechanic is present in both games. That however is where the similarities end.

This game is more on the city builder, colony simulation side of things. You micro manage multiple villagers at once, instead a main character. Your villagers have attributes that level up depending on how passionate the yare about those activities, and how long they perform them for.

The biggest feature this game has is the freedom you have in building your bases. You can have multiple story castles made out of various materials such as wood, clay, limestone etc. You can be very creative with your bases and that is a great thing.

On the flip side, there is a lot of downtime with this game. I would like for more villagers to come to your base more often. As it stands, there is a lot of sitting and waiting at 5x speed for your villagers to complete their tasks, primarily because you just do not have enough people and they have too many things to do.

The research takes way too long to complete, especially when there is so much tasking to perform around the base. The AI however is not dumb. When enemy raids take place, the enemies will target your archers, rendering them useless in close combat, unable to run away and flee. Having a structure from which they can attack from afar is crucial.

Another feature lacking but present in the roadmap is better interaction with other factions in the world map. I would like to be able to open up negotiations with other factions and establish relationships, raid them, and conquer them, or make them our vessel and demand resources under our kingdom.

I have not expanded as far as to make underground bases yet, but that is also possible. Food storage underground preserves the food even longer as temperature, roofing and whether or not there is a floor where items are placed are all taken under consideration for the durability of your items.

This game goes very much in depth in a lot of things, but is definitely lacking in a lot of other factors. I am looking forward to the items in the roadmap, as they are essentially everything I ask of this game.
