While 3D Modelers were getting all the spotlight, with the 486 and Pentium Processors, PC's were being used in a lot more fields that utilized intense computation. Data Visualization started to become a thing around this time. As the name implies, Data Visualization created a visualized representation of supplied data. Data Visualization was very demanding from a CPU perspective. As such, while mainly restricted to the UNIX platforms, data visualizers started to make there way onto the x86 PC. One of the first data visualizers that made there way onto the PC was weather forecasting and climate analysis software. Weather data supplied by the NWS could be crunched in a reasonable amount of time on a 486 and then displayed using various weather maps. Radar data could be supplied by some of the software as well. Now, because of changes in the data format used by the NWS and other providers, the software featured can only make use of archived data included. The software shown in the video is PCGRIDDS, Radar Coded Message Decoder Program, and WeatherGraphix. All the software is for MS-DOS. 86Box is emulating a IBM PS/ValuePoint 433DX/Si with a Intel 486DX2 running at 66MHz, 32MB's of RAM, and a Cirrus Logic GD5434 SVGA Video Adapter. DOSBox is emulating a PC Workstation with a 486 Processor set to Max Cycles, 48MB's of RAM, and a VESA-Compatible SVGA Video Adapter.
