Lush green mountains, endless beaches, lively cities: the Cape Verde islands are diverse and each island is its own little cosmos. The easternmost island of Boa Vista is located around 600 kilometers from Senegal's capital Dakar. The endless sandy beaches are a magnet for sun-seekers and an important nesting site for sea turtles. Here, Nina and Jonas experience the magical moment when 80 baby turtles set off for the Atlantic right after hatching. Mindelo on the island of São Vicente is the second largest city in Cape Verde and is considered the secret capital. Here everything revolves around music and culture and around the carnival. Celebrations are held here based on the Brazilian model and Nina is allowed to play the drums herself during the rehearsals of a samba group. The journey takes them on to the hiking island of Santo Antão, where they not only get to know the lush landscape, but also immerse themselves in everyday life. In a small village, Nina learns to prepare the national dish cachupa. Santiago is considered the most African of the Cape Verde Islands and both experience this at the colorful markets of the capital Praia. In Cidade Velha, immerse yourself in the history of the island. This is where the first Portuguese settlers landed on Cape Verde.
