When our cameras first began filming inside a maximum-security juvenile prison in the late 1990's, we learned of a prison unit called the GROW program, Gang Realities In Our World. The unit was designed so rival teen gang members would live side-by-side in their cell block and hopefully help see that they weren't as different as they may have thought when they were on the outside.  The program incorporated group counseling  and education as key elements to help prevent kids from returning to gang life upon release from prison. This video features a counseling session inside the prison with 3 teenagers who described what their lives were like on the outside, how they viewed words like "respect" amongst their peers in the gangs, and overall, what they hoped they could gain after being incarcerated and hopefully learning lessons from each other behind prison walls.
