In this video lesson we tackle the present tense of verbs. The present tense is a verb form used to describe an action occurring at the current moment. It is used to describe ongoing actions, habitual actions, and general truths.

The present tense verb in Arabic is also known as the "مُضَارِع" (muḍāri‘) tense. The structure of the present tense verb in Arabic generally involves adding specific prefixes to the root verb, depending on the subject pronoun (gender and plurality).

In this lesson, we not only dive into the present tense of verbs but also explore the concept of الأفعال الخمسة (al-af‘āl al-khamsah)—the five verbs. These verbs represent specific pronouns and follow a unique conjugation rule. They require the addition of both a prefix and a suffix for proper conjugation.

The conjugation of the five verbs involves three distinct suffixes: the plural waw (واو الجماعة), dual alif (ألف الاثنين), and 2nd person feminine ya’ (ياء التأنيث). With the first and second suffixes having two cases and the third one having a single case, there are a total of five conjugation forms. This is why they are commonly referred to as the "five verbs."

Not only does this comprehensive video lesson on the present tense in Arabic provide you with valuable insights and explanations, but it also goes the extra mile to ensure your mastery of the topic. Towards the end of the lesson, we present a specially crafted exercise that we solve together, offering you an opportunity to apply the knowledge you have acquired throughout the session. This exercise serves a dual purpose. Firstly, it allows you to practice and reinforce the concepts covered in the lesson, reinforcing your understanding and boosting your confidence. Secondly, the exercise focuses on specific points that may not have been covered extensively in the main lesson, providing additional examples and addressing potential areas of confusion.
