Japan is now recognized as a very safe and pacifist country of polite and respectful people. But before World War II Japan was feared throughout the world for its brutal colonialism and war crimes. In 1910 Japan invaded Korea and was under its control for 35 years. Taiwan was also a Japanese colony for 50 years and during the war against the Russian Empire Japan almost completely annihilated the Russian fleet of 38 bows; 21 were sunk, 7 captured and 7 disarmed. This victory marked Japan's emergence as a major military power and an important player in world geopolitics. However, today Japan is not allowed to have an army. So the questions are: why is Japan forbidden in its constitution to have a military, why do the Japanese not want to have a military as before, and why do Japanese politicians not want to have a military as before? And, why do Japanese politicians want to see the country as a military power again?
