How to draw lines in Microsoft Word.  This tutorial shows you how to draw lines in word, whether is a vertical, horizontal or diagonal line. This tutorial shows you how to draw multiple types of lines in Word quickly and easily.  Once you have found the line icon in word, you would think it's fairly easy to draw a line, and you would be right. However, once your line is drawn you might want to re format the line. perhaps the line needs to be thicker or dotted for a signature or to indicate a cutting line.  You may have to duplicate the line exactly.  to do this is fairly simple when you know how.

In this video I show you how to draw a free hand line in word as well as perfect straight lines. I demonstrate how to change the lines colour, structure and angle. This video also demonstrates how to use the lines within a diagram.

Drawing freehand lines can also give you a varied and more artistic look to your document or diagram.  This video on how to draw a line in word demonstrates how to do this.

The quickest and easiest method for inserting a line into a Word document involves the application's AutoFormat feature, where typing just a few characters instantly creates the type of line that you're interested in. To get started, first place your cursor in the location that you'd like to insert a line.

Next, type three of a particular character and hit the Enter or Return key. Your line will automatically be created in the spot chosen. The following characters can be used to create a line via AutoFormat. Reference the accompanying screenshot below to see what each of these line types actually looks like in Word.

There are many uses of word documents with lines. It is highly required to format the document and to make sure that the best and the most advanced feature of MS word is used to get the document in order. The lines also ensure that you find the section you are looking for with ease and satisfaction. The best part of this idea is that it allows the user to use it at multiple levels. In simple words unlike some of the MS word ideas this one can be used as much as you like.

The Drawing toolbar allows you to create a number of shapes that were previously only available through the use of a drawing program. One such shape is a line. To draw a line, follow these steps:

Display the Insert tab of the ribbon.
In the Illustrations group, click the Shapes tool. You'll see a large selection of shapes you can create.
Click one of the line types in the Lines group.
Position the mouse pointer where one end of the line is to be located.
Click and hold the mouse button.
Drag the mouse until the line is the desired length.
Release the mouse button.

Use Shapes
Click on the INSERT RIBBON - SHAPES button. On the drop-down gallery, the second section has a series of lines. Some have arrowheads; others have bends and angles. Pick one.

Click where the line begins, and drag to where the line ends.

To keep the line straight, hold down the SHIFT key while dragging.

Upon letting go, each line has a resize handle at the beginning and end to change the dimension.
Lines that have curves and bends also have adjustment diamonds to refine the angles.

Recent projects that we have completed using lines have included an instruction for a walking holiday where we had to draw lines on an image of a map to indicate starting points and destinations.  We were also able to draw freehand lines to show the routes we were taking.  I also took a recent workshop and had to highlight areas of a photograph that needed work in photoshop.  Drawing a freehand line was great for this demonstration, quick, easy and colourful to make it obvious where I was pointing to.
A friend of mine also wanted to draw a mind map recently with the intent of emailing it to work colleagues. Once we had made the circles with the various subject matters in we were able to point at the circles from the main subject matter with arrow lines. Those links that were a little more tenuous only required a dotted line.  The advantage of creating this project in Word was the flexibility we had to change and alter things as we went along. The lines could be cut and pasted or copy and pasted to wherever we need them. The ability to re-edit projects is absolutely vital in this age of technology, decision making and project evolution.
