Hyundai WIA completed the development
Hyundai WIA completed the development of new KMS-114 81mm lightweight, digital mortar system for the Republic of Korea Army according to Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA).
The new KMS-114 81mm mortar began system development on December, 2014 and is set to replace KM-187 mortar which has been operated by the ROK Army since 1996.
Its improved features over the existing KM187 mortar are the following:
- Fully digital observation and fire control process
- Reduced firing time and increased accuracy via incorporation of laser & GPS technology
- Reduction of crew from 5 to 4
- 20% reduction in weight and subsequent reduction in crew fatigue
- 100% localiztaion rate, reduced logistic footprint, and increased export opportunity
- Increased mobility with dedicated transport vehicle
