Almost every operating system provides the search feature. This search feature can help you to find a file on the computer. Even, if you didn’t remember a file name but you know what the file format is, or if you know in which software you have created this file. Then, you can easily search and find it on a computer.
In this video, we will see how to find a file on a computer in Windows. Let’s follow the steps.
1. At the bottom left of the taskbar, click on the Windows search text field.
2. Type a file name in the search bar that you are looking for.
3. If the search result is not showing your file, then click on the more and select an option from the list of your file format.
4. Like here, I am searching for a photo, so I am clicking on the Photos option.
5. But it is not showing my file here, and suggesting to search a file in the File Explorer.
6. So, we will try to search our file in File Explorer.
7. Let’s open the File Explorer, and click on This PC from the left pane.
8. At the top right in the search bar, type the name of the file and click on the arrow button.
9. Windows will start searching the file on your computer.
10. After some time, it will show you the search result with some found files.
11. Right-click on a file name from the search result.
12. From the menu list, click on the Open file location and see we have found our file on this PC.
13. If you have forgotten the file name, then open the File Explorer.
14. Navigate to the location of a file folder, if you know where you have saved it.
15. At the top right, click on the search bar.
16. Type a symbol of asterisk * dot and file format name.
17. Like here, I am typing *.jpg and clicking on this arrow button.
18. You will find your file in the search result.
