Hamdardi is one of Allama Iqbal's most famous poems for children. It is a conversation between a bird and a firefly who help one another in a very unique way. The bird is scared to fly at night because it is dark and the cute little firefly offers to help light the way. That is so beautiful, isn't it? بلبل تھا کوئی اداس بيٹھا
Tehni Pe Kisi Shajar Ki Tanha
Bulbul Tha Koi Udas Baitha
Perched on the branch of a tree
Was a nightingale sad and lonely
کہتا تھا کہ رات سر پہ آئی
اڑنے چگنے ميں دن گزارا
Kehta Tha Ke Raat Ser Pe Aayi
Urne Chugne Mein Din Guzra

“I passed the day in flying around and feeding
پہنچوں کس طرح آشياں تک
ہر چيز پہ چھا گيا اندھيرا

جگنو کوئی پاس ہی سے بولا

A glow‐worm lurking nearby spoke thus
حاضر ہوں مدد کو جان و دل سے
کيڑا ہوں اگرچہ ميں ذرا سا
Hazir Hun Madad Ko Jaan O Dil Se
Keera Hun Agarche Mein Zara Sa
“With my heart and soul ready to help I am
Though only an insignificant insect I am
کيا غم ہے جو رات ہے اندھيری
ميں راہ ميں روشنی کروں گا
Kya Gham Hai Jo Raat Hai Andheri
Main Rah Mein Roshani Karon Ga
Never mind if the night is dark
I shall shed light if the way is dark
اللہ نے دی ہے مجھ کو مشعل
چمکا کے مجھے ديا بنايا
Allah Ne Di Hai Mujh Ko Mishal
Chamka Ke Mujhay Diya Banaya
God has bestowed a torch on me
He has given a shining lamp to me
ہيں لوگ وہی جہاں ميں اچھے
آتے ہيں جو کام دُوسرں کے
Hain Log Wohi Jahan Mein Ache
Aate Hain Jo Kaam Dusron Ke
