Drake is undoubtedly one of the most successful artists of all time in any genre, earning close to half a billion dollars on the road. And in terms of album sales, he is close to the 200 million mark. Streaming is in the multiple billions and he just reached a crazy achievement by tying Michael Jackson’s Number ones record. I mean Fat Joe reached as far as to call Drake the MJ of our time.

Mos Def was asked about Drake in a recent interview and he reluctantly agreed to speak about him, knowing what the reaction would be to his comments. But Mos Def compared Drake to shopping, saying that he would be the perfect soundtrack to consumerism.

But does rapping at a high level make you Hip Hop? Can you be number one in sales and not be Pop? This is the Drake Dillema. In this video we’re going to take a look at both sides of this argument and hear what other big names in the space have had to say about it over the years.  I’m Jeremy Hecht and this is another DX Deep Dive.

In this video we take a look at Drake through the mouths of Jim Jones, Charlamagne, Mos Def, Snoop Dogg, Fat Joe, Lil Wayne, Grandmaster Flash, 50 Cent and more.
