I get asked all the time what aspiring illustrators should do if they have no money and are just starting out. it can be intimidating to see all these expensive big screen displays by Wacom, or products by Apple. But I wanted to get the cheapest graphics tablet I could find and test it out, see if it could actually create a piece that I was working on and do a good enough job.
